I recently had the pleasure of visiting the Harry Potter Studios in London, and I must say, it was an enchanting and magical experience that left me spellbound!

Stepping into the Warner Bros. Studio Tour London The Making of Harry Potter feels like walking straight through Platform 9¾ and onto the pages of J.K. Rowling’s world. From the moment I entered, I knew this was going to be more than just a tour, it was an immersive journey into the magic behind the magic.

The Arrival and First Impressions

The excitement starts before you even get inside. Outside the building, enormous images of the cast and iconic movie moments greet you, along with the giant chess pieces from The Philosopher’s Stone. The atmosphere buzzes with families, fans in Hogwarts scarves, and people already clutching butterbeer like they’ve just left The Three Broomsticks.

After a quick orientation, we were ushered into a small cinema room. The short film, hosted by Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint, set the tone perfectly. Then came that moment — the screen rolled up to reveal the grand entrance to the Great Hall.

The great Hall

Walking Through the Great Hall

The Great Hall is every bit as breathtaking as it looks on screen. Standing there, I felt like I could hear the clinking of goblets and the Sorting Hat’s announcements. The detail is mind-blowing, the stone floors, the floating candles, the real costumes worn by the cast. This was my first proper photo stop, and I made sure to get every angle.

Exploring the Sets

From there, the tour unfolded like a spellbook coming to life. I wandered through the Gryffindor common room, Dumbledore’s office, and the Potions classroom with its shelves of bubbling cauldrons. One of my personal favourites was the Weasley’s Burrow — complete with magical knitting needles and self-washing pans.

Seeing these sets up close made me appreciate the artistry that goes into filmmaking. Every prop, every dusty book spine, and every flickering lantern was designed with an almost obsessive attention to detail.

The Photo Opportunities

This was, without a doubt, one of my favourite parts of the day. The tour is packed with interactive photo stops: flying a broomstick in front of a green screen, riding the Hogwarts Express at Platform 9¾, and standing on the famous cobblestones of Diagon Alley.

I couldn’t resist holding a wand while striking my best wizard pose in front of Ollivanders, or pretending to push my trolley through the wall on Platform 9¾. The camera roll on my phone has never been happier.

Behind the Magic

The behind-the-scenes areas were fascinating especially the Creature Effects department, where goblins, dragons, and house-elves were brought to life. Seeing the animatronics and prosthetics made me realise how much practical magic went into creating the world we saw on screen.

And then there’s the model of Hogwarts Castle. Towering over the room, lit to simulate day and night, it’s the perfect finale to the tour. I stood there for ages just soaking it all in.

Butterbeer & Souvenirs

No trip would be complete without tasting butterbeer sweet, frothy, and best enjoyed outside in the backlot, surrounded by Privet Drive, the Knight Bus, and the Hogwarts bridge. The gift shop at the end is dangerous territory for your wallet; I left with a Gryffindor scarf, a wand, and a promise to come back.

Positive Points

  • Immersive Sets and Attention to Detail: The attention to detail in the sets is truly commendable. From the iconic Great Hall to Diagon Alley, every corner is meticulously crafted, transporting visitors straight into the wizarding world. It's a dream come true for any Harry Potter fan.

  • Interactive Exhibits: The interactive exhibits add an extra layer of excitement to the tour. From casting spells with a wand to riding a broomstick in front of a green screen, these experiences make the visit engaging and entertaining for visitors of all ages.

  • Knowledgeable and Enthusiastic Staff: The staff members are not only knowledgeable about the Harry Potter universe but also genuinely enthusiastic about sharing their insights. Their passion enhances the overall experience and adds a personal touch to the tour.

  • Photo Opportunities: There are numerous photo opportunities throughout the tour. Whether you're posing next to the Hogwarts Express or sipping on Butterbeer, the studio provides plenty of chances to capture magical moments to cherish forever.

Negative Points:

  • Crowded at Peak Times: While the popularity of the studio is well-deserved, it can get quite crowded during peak times. Navigating through the exhibits can be a bit challenging, and waiting times for some interactive activities can be longer than expected.

  • Expensive Souvenirs: The souvenir shop offers a wide range of magical memorabilia, but some items can be on the pricier side. Budget-conscious visitors may find it challenging to resist the allure of the magical merchandise.

The Harry Potter Studios in London is a dream for fans and a fascinating trip for anyone curious about filmmaking. The combination of detailed sets, hands-on experiences, and magical photo opportunities made it an unforgettable day. I left feeling like I’d been part of the wizarding world, if only for a few hours.

Until next time, Mischief Managed.
