Magical Atmosphere

Working on the Disney Fantasy is like stepping into a fairy tale. Everywhere you turn, there's enchantment in the air, making every day feel like a magical adventure.

I particularly loved walking around the ship at night and seeing all the lights. There was something so magical about an empty deck lit up for the night.

Guest Interactions

Bringing joy to guests' faces is one of the most rewarding aspects of the job. Whether it's creating special moments with beloved characters or performing for enthusiastic audiences, guest interactions are always heart warming.

One of my absolute favourite things to do was bow to kids that were dressed up as princes and princesses. It was quite a sight to see smiles light up their faces.

Ocean Views

Waking up to the endless expanse of the ocean each day is truly awe-inspiring. It's a constant reminder of the beauty and vastness of the world around us.

There wasn’t one time where I didn’t love the sea, it was beautiful and never-ending. It truly brought me peace.

Travelling

Exploring exotic destinations while working is a dream come true. From the Caribbean to Europe, each port of call offers unique sights and experiences that enrich both work and leisure time.

I worked in Florida, the Bahamas and Caribbean and although I only got off the ship at Castaway Cay, getting to see all of these places was amazing.

Bad Crew Food

While guests dined like royalty, crew meals were a bit more hit-or-miss. Some folks loved them, I personally spent a lot of time missing home cooking.

Dating Co-workers

Navigating romantic relationships with co-workers can be challenging, especially when work and personal life intersect.

When you work and live with the same people for such a long time it is so easy to fall into relationships, I certainly did. Just remember you still have to work with them if it doesn’t work out.

No Days Off

The demanding nature of the job means that days off can be rare, making it difficult to find time for rest and relaxation.

Limited Private Time

Living and working in close quarters with colleagues leaves little room for personal space and privacy.

High Expectations

Disney sets high standards for its crew members, which can be stressful and demanding at times.

Progression Takes Too Long

Moving up with Disney can take time, sometimes a lot of time. It’s not uncommon to see talented crew waiting years for a promotion. But if you’re passionate, patient, and keep showing up with that Disney spirit, the journey itself can be just as rewarding as the destination!

Bad Internet

Meeting Goofy and Pluto

The internet connection on board can be unreliable, making it difficult to stay connected with loved ones back home.

Limited Time Off the Ship

While the ship visits various ports of call, crew members may have limited time to explore and enjoy these destinations due to work commitments.

The Rulebook is Real

Working for Disney Cruise Line means living up to some seriously high standards and yes, the rules are very real. There’s always that tiny fear of slipping up, but if you stay professional, keep a good attitude, and remember why you’re there, you’ll thrive. Just think of it as part of the magic formula!

Management Changes

One day you’re in a groove, the next - new manager, new vibe! Leadership changes could shake things up fast, from schedules to team dynamics. It kept us on our toes for sure, but it also taught us to adapt quickly and stay flexible, a valuable life skill in disguise!

Working on the Disney Fantasy was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience, a journey full of unforgettable moments, personal growth, and the kind of magic only Disney can create. Like any job, there were challenges, but the joy of bringing smiles to guests from around the world and being part of a tight-knit crew made it all worthwhile. Honestly, the hardest part about working for Disney Cruise Line was having to come home. If you ever get the chance to join the Fantasy, take it — you won’t regret a second of it.
